Less than 9 months ago, we were new to “parent-time,” packing a travel bag every other weekend, and alternating holidays. I distinctly remember wishing I could fast-forward through the next 6 months—through the shock, the heartache, the grieving, and the learning curve of being a single parent.
As 2017 was drawing to a close, I came across this quote:
Strength doesn’t (only) come from what you can do. It (also) comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.
You can probably do things that I can’t do and may never be able to do—and, to me that’s strength.
I added the words in parenthesis above because I distinctly remember wishing I could fast-forward through 6 months of things I didn’t think I could do. At all, let alone well.
And then I did things that I hadn’t practiced or prepared for—and, I think there’s strength in that too.
With all of the things I didn’t think I could do and didn’t want to do came fresh starts, lessons, new skills, growth, and an appreciation of many things.
In 2018, we wish you 363 more days of fresh starts, growth, and peace in your heart that each day is another chance to live the life you’ve been given and to live the best life you possibly can. You are loved.
