I have big news.
Big news that sprouted from an incredibly real mommy moment.
When I first saw The It Mom post that started this journey, I was scrolling Facebook late one night. As I sat there scrolling, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, “It’s official—I officially have the mommy equivalent of Mr. Rogers’ outfit.”
There I sat, in an outfit I’d worn for like 3 days between the hours of 4 p.m. (aka. after-school pickup) and 9 a.m. the next day (aka. morning school dropoff).
I needed a shower. And yet, here I sat—scrolling. And then, there it was:
The question was, if you were given the opportunity to receive an All-Expense-Paid, Head-To-Toe Makeover from makeup and style experts who would show you how to apply your best makeup, what to look for when shopping for clothes for your body, and how to re-create that every day in minutes—and then document your personal story and share it with the world—would you do it?
I recalled the conversation I’d just had with myself about my “outfit” and answered aloud, verbatim:
SH*T YES I would. That would be incredible.
My actual, filtered comment (at like 10:30 p.m.) was:
YES! After this year, that sounds heavenly.
Wouldn’t meeting experts that would show you how to feel beautiful and confident in your own skin, as you are, every day be every woman’s dream?
Well, nearly 600 people reacted to this “quick question.” More than 250 people commented, sharing their stories of feeling fatigued, frustrated, and even hopeless.
Personally, the last 2 ½ years for me have felt a whole hell of a lot like this:
More and more, I realize that I’m not alone in what I’ve fought my way through. I also know very well what “alone” feels like:
It’s surprising and unsettling to find yourself feeling alone in a room with the people you love most. ‘Lost’ in your own home. —One Little Word 2015
In large part, it’s why I became a blogger. I don’t want anyone else to feel as alone as I’ve felt.
On the surface, I think many would answer, “well who wouldn’t want a free makeover?”
But for me, and for so many, this is so much more than “a free makeover.”
After I commented on The It Mom’s post, I was still very aware that I needed a shower.
But, before I closed my laptop I made sure to Like the post and Follow The It Mom. I was not going to miss the follow-up to this post.
Because here’s the thing: I met The It Mom, Daisy Teh, once.
Not only is she beautiful and gracious, with an adorable family—after meeting her once y’all, I knew that she’d probably already figured out how to make this happen.
The next day, there was news of an application in the works.
Within two days,
We’re doing this! We’re really, REALLY doing this!!! Ahhhhh!
—Daisy Teh, The It Mom
And just four days after the original post, the official application was open to all U.S. residents and the search was on for 8 moms who would receive the life-transforming opportunity.
I’m telling you—The It Mom, Daisy Teh, is a woman to watch.
When this “quick question” blossomed into an application, I applied.
Whatever the outcome, I knew I’d be watching these 8 women.
On a Tuesday afternoon, I found an email from The It Mom in my inbox with the subject, “TIME SENSITIVE RESPONSE REQUIRED.”
I think I held my breath until there it was, open in front of me.
If you’ve ever been on that amusement ride that straps you into a chair, lifts you really high up into the air, and after a really unsettling period of time drops you—that’s what that moment felt like. A thrilling and uncomfortable rush.
Intense gratitude mixed with disbelief.
The It Mom and The It Mom “Makeover Dream Team” had invited me to fly to Newport Beach, California for a Total Mom Makeover.
Immediately, I felt the weight of this opportunity. Every woman and every mom deserves an opportunity like this.
Go ahead and find your favorite “Ugly Cry” giphy, and envision it here:
That was me.
It was the first glimpse I’d caught in a long time of “the rise” out of all of it.
If you’ve ever felt like you can’t get in front of life—and that no matter how hard you try or how much you give, you’re “not enough”—you’re not alone.
I vow to stand, and then stand again, and then stand again. And, to stand with you.
I sincerely hope that in some way, our journey will help will offer strength to someone else.

Meet Daisy Teh, The It Mom
It’s easy to find ourselves putting everyone else’s needs above our own. Moms do this all the time, at their own expense. They find themselves rushing to get ready in the morning, not giving themselves the time and attention they deserve. I felt like I had to do something about this.
—Daisy Teh, The It Mom
Teh knows all too well how challenging it can be to balance the demands of motherhood and staying true to yourself.
A teen mom at just 17, Teh earned her cosmetology license and worked her way through college for major makeup brands like Lancome and Borghese. She fell in love with beauty and style.
Despite her passion, Teh still struggled to raise two children, attend school, work, and find time to look and feel her best.
Once she landed a full-time corporate job, she had four children and a large family to care for. Despite living her “dream life,” Teh found herself feeling tired, haggard and uninspired by makeup or clothing. “I felt like I’d lost myself,” she recalls.
Teh’s site, The It Mom, began as a place for Teh to rediscover and share her passion for fashion, beauty and lifestyle topics.
Teh’s following grew, and she quickly realized that her readers wanted more inspiration, ideas, and solutions to help them out of the fashion and beauty “rut” they’d found themselves in.
The Total Mom Makeover Show was born.
As a licensed cosmetologist, Teh performed countless makeovers, witnessing first-hand the transformation to her clients’ confidence and self-esteem.
I’m humbled to be able to provide the opportunity to do this for these women. To help someone regain their sense of self is truly incredible.
