With summer just a few weeks away, we’ve started planning for our new summer schedule.
Our kids are still up early in the summer. But, instead of racing off to school we’re looking forward to enjoying a more relaxed pace and to planning for summer fun!
Today, we’re sharing 4 helpful tips that will make summer brushing fun and easy!
Plan Your Summer Routine
Summer often means a new morning schedule, longer days, and later evenings. Decide together what your summer morning and bedtime routines will be and make brushing a part of each.
Remind kids who are used to brushing their teeth before they leave for school that in summer, the time to brush is now ie. right after breakfast.
Prepare For Overnight Summer Fun
Of course, warmer summer weather and a break from school often means campouts!
Invite your kids to choose an extra toothbrush for themselves the next time you visit the store. Be sure to buy a mini tube of toothpaste, a pack of fun flossers, and a mini bottle of water for each member of your family.
Together, build summer brushing kits with your supplies. An inexpensive pencil bag from the dollar store or a Ziploc bag make great kit containers.
How 2 Minutes Flies When Brushing Is Fun
For how long should you brush? The recommended brushing time is 2 minutes. We need that time to clear away the sticky film of germs that forms on teeth and gums after eating: plaque.
The longer plaque hangs around in our mouths, the more trouble it causes. Plaque that hardens becomes tartar, a buildup that your dentist has to remove. Tarter buildup can make it harder to properly brush and floss, and care for your teeth and gums.
But when summer fun is waiting for you, 2 minutes can feel like forever!
For those of you who remember our Superhero Brushing Punch Cards, we thought we needed a fun summer-themed punch card to get us excited about summer brushing!
Summer Olaf Brushing Punch Cards
Each summer punch card is good for one week with 7 smiling suns for AM brushing and flossing, and 7 beach balls for PM brushing and flossing.
Add the date or a punch card number in the upper right-hand corner. Or, punch a hole for a binder ring.
Personalize your card by writing your name in the “This card belongs to” box.
Stamp Olaf diving for a beach ball when your punch card is full, to recognize your child for their dedication to healthy teeth and gums!
Just Add Music
It’s easy to time your brushing with sand timers, and toothbrushes with flashing light timers. For us, music makes the best timer.
Time flies when you’re listening to one of your favorite songs. We’ve included a few helpful links below to help you find a toothbrush and/or an app that will make summer brushing super fun and easy!
