On our 7th wedding anniversary, my husband had to work.
This summer he’ll complete his master’s degree. But, until then he’s still a student taking night classes. After work on our anniversary, he went to class until 10 p.m.
I had a choice. I could spend the day with a little dark rain cloud over my head. Or, I could celebrate — and there was a lot to celebrate!
Instead of feeling angry or sad that we wouldn’t be able to celebrate our special day, I thought to take my boys and I to Trader Joe’s to buy a special treat.
We snagged some Trader Joe’s Vintage Cola and Dilettante Bing Cherries for my husband and delivered them to him at the office.
Then we took our Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Filled Cupcakes to the park. I got a warm, sunny day for my anniversary.
After the boys ate their cupcakes, they played on the water pad for the first time this year and wore themselves out. We didn’t even bother with swimsuits.
I enjoyed a can of Coke and I snapped several great photos of my boys having a lot of fun playing in the water!
When the people in our lives come through for us in wonderful ways, and at just the right time, it can be magical. When another person puts forth the effort to express love and concern for you, it’s thrilling.
We’re also human, and we can unintentionally fail each other.
When I can set aside my immediate feelings, I’m actually really glad that I’m responsible for my own peace, joy and happiness.
It means that I get to determine the quality of my life in the face of my circumstances.
HOW WILL YOU CREATE YOUR OWN HAPPY TODAY?
How fun. Love this post and I love those cupcakes! I know where that splash pad is, I was not sure it was open yet! Would love to hang out soon! we could meet up their with our kids 🙂 My anniversary was recently as well and I spent it going to a movie with my dad lol 🙂
The splash pads are a favorite! You can let the kids go and relax yourself. Happy Anniversary to you too! I hope you had a great night out with your dad!
Guess if you didn’t get married, you might not have those kidlets, so seems appropriate to have some fun with them on your anniversary! Looks like they had a ton of fun, and that’s a great memory maker.
So true. Thank you for your sweet words.
great post! Sometimes we want other people or things to make us , but it is our job to decide if we are going to be happy or not. I recently got a shirt for a blog promo that says, best day ever, on it. They wanted us to take pictures wearing this shirt. At first I thought that it would be hard because I’m not doing anything really cool and not going anywhere really cool, but then I realize that I can make every day the best day ever with my attitude and seeing the joy around me each and every day no matter what is going on.thanks for sharing this post again! Have an awesome weekend
I admire you girl! That can be surprisingly hard to do! But way to own it! I’d love a link to your post!!
