I must have browsed hundreds of Disney inspired activities, games, recipes, and parties. As I began to feel more overwhelmed than inspired, I closed my laptop. I thought about what my (soon to be) 5-year-old loved most about “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” and what he would find fun, magical, and memorable.
I can tell you, it helps a ton to have a supportive husband who’s also in project management. With Hubby’s help, within an hour we had our ideas listed and chunked down into human-sized tasks. He also agreed to take on the most challenging project of them all – the building of a Clubhouse.
In the days leading up to the party Hubby and a friend built the frame of the clubhouse in the garage, while my sweet mother-in-law sewed the fabric cover at home.
And though it took a team and some strategic misdirection, we managed to lead both boys out of the house just hours before the party–past the giant clubhouse being built behind them–without spoiling the surprise.
The Birthday Boy’s Reaction To His Surprise Birthday Party
Realizing your parents have celebrated ‘the wrong day’ is a little overwhelming. Leap needed a hug from Dad and a little reassurance that his parents hadn’t forgotten his real birthday.
With literally hundreds of photos as proof – Thanks to our photographer and friend Kris Kareh – we partied our little hearts out. I loved seeing our guests arrive as Ariel, Elsa from Frozen, Mr. Incredible, Rapunzel with a baby Pascal, and Snow White. Our birthday boy was surprised. The company was wonderful. Our little guests loved the Clubhouse that Hubby and his mom put so much time and love into. And,we wore this little guy out (which can be hard to do).
