Groundhog Day 2017 is February 2ND!
Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day are very different holidays, I realize. But, in celebration of Groundhog Day my husband and I would snuggle up in front of the fireplace and the movie “Groundhog Day.”
Too many years ago, I remember watching “Groundhog Day” in a Screenwriting class at the University of Utah. Fast forward to married life and finding any reason to watch and enjoy Bill Murray in “Groundhog Day.” Now, it’s impossible to watch “Groundhog Day” without thinking of my husband.
But this year, I feel personally connected to the movie “Groundhog Day.”
Wouldn’t a ‘Groundhog Day’ be excellent? Wouldn’t it be great to re-live a pivotal day in your life until you got it just right? To go back and set the future right by repeating that key moment until you got it?
“GROUNDHOG DAY”–THE MOVIE
This year, 2017, can you believe the movie “Groundhog Day” will celebrate its 24TH anniversary?!
I still can’t help but giggle at Bill Murray as the sour, self-centered weatherman who wakes up each morning to find that it’s still Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney.
Giggling through “Groundhog Day” with my sweetheart was hands-down my favorite Groundhog Day tradition.
A “GROUNDHOG DAY” THEMED DATE NIGHT
After watching “Groundhog Day” for like 7 years together, I decided it was time for a proper “Groundhog Day” Themed Date Night, and “Groundhog Day” Date Night wouldn’t be complete without Phil’s B&B nightstand decor.

You might also look for paper heart-shaped doiles in the Valentine’s Day decor section of your nearest grocery store.

3| A few pink roses, faux or fresh
I found one stem with a few fresh, small pink roses for around $3 in the floral section of my nearest grocery store.

OUR FAUX VINTAGE FLIP CLOCK
1| Remove the glass from your photo frame and trace it onto your black cardstock. For a better fit in your frame, trim a thin piece off one width edge.
2| Use either a white decal for your numbers OR cut your numbers out and trace them onto your black cardstock with your fine silver pen or marker (for a more precise edge).
3| Fill in your outlined numbers with a large silver marker. Otherwise, you’ll be coloring for a long time.
4| To give your numbers the look of a flip alarm clock, use a straight edge and your fine black marker to draw a straight line through all three numbers.
5| Add “AM” to the left of the hour.
DATE NIGHT ACTIVITIES
1| Watch live coverage of the Punxsutawney celebration together.
2| Write the following quote from “Groundhog Day” on a gift tag and attach it to a new stick of Chapstick for your sweetheart:
“The big question on everybody’s lips…on their chapped lips…
Do ya’ think Phil is gonna’ come out and see his shadow?”
3| Write a Love Check for $339.88. On the Checkbook Cover/Love Check write:
“I’ve got $339.88 that says you’re mine for Groundhog Day.”
Give it to your sweetheart first thing in the morning as a Save the Date.
4| List truths about your sweetheart in a card. For example:
“You don’t like getting caught in the rain, but you love the smell of it.”
Title it “I Know All About You.”
5| Build a snowman.
For a romantic spin, follow your snow date with a warm shower (together) and slip into pajamas fresh from the dryer.
6| No snow? Make sugar cookie snowmen.
7| Pretend you’re snowed in. Hide your cell phones and light the fireplace, or a few candles.
8| Fling playing cards into a hat.
9| In the true spirit of “Groundhog Day,” do something kind together for someone else.
DINNER & DESSERT
-Have a Continental Breakfast for dinner
-Build your own ‘Blizzard’ at a Blizzard Bar: ice cream and your favorite candies/cookies/fruits as mix-ins
Which quote from “Groundhog Day” still makes you giggle out loud?
