This week it’s all Mom all the time, with Dad out of town on business. How do we balance two blogs and life at home without Dad? One day at a time. Here’s a peek.
8:30 AM | Eyes open. Wait. It’s past 8 AM. It’s quiet. I’m alone in my bed. This moment is the unicorn of parenthood. Keeping the boys out late has for once tipped the scales in my favor! I get comfortable and prepare myself to enjoy this rare moment.
9:00 AM | And potstickers. My oldest son wants potstickers for breakfast. Pick your battles. Potstickers it is!
9:30 AM | The youngest is finally awake. I find them both on the playroom floor bundled in blankets. The oldest is sitting on the heat vent in the floor. I don’t even know how my youngest is bundled like this. I giggle, and then I have to bump up the thermostat two degrees because this makes my heart hurt a little.
Our focus for today is Events, across four blogs. I create content for two blogs, mine and my son’s. I also contribute to The Tyler Robinson Foundation blog and the Burg Pediatric Dentistry blog. I feel the most productive when each day of the week has a focus|focus word. If you’d be interested in a more in-depth post about this, leave me a Comment!
In the face of our best plans, life happens. Life was happening as I snapped these photos. There are times when we need to power through it, but it can be difficult to see how.
5 THINGS THAT HELP ME POWER THROUGH
- Extra care. You need it. Sometimes it’s all you can do to feed yourself and your kids and rest. And you know what? It’s OK.
- A hot shower
- Talking. To God, a friend, a journal, or yourself. Talk through what’s happening in your life and in your heart.
- Time with someone you care about
10:01 AM | A hot shower. I do my best brainstorming in the shower. Heat combined with the sound of falling water calms me. I can think through my biggest obstacles in life and in blogging.
10:45-11:00 AM | Mascara. aka. Magic. I don’t understand it, but a curled lash and a little mascara can do amazing things. Today I feel like sporting some unnaturally long eyelashes.
11:30 AM | Lunch. To the grocery store for Lunchables and some fresh air.
12:30 PM | We drop big brother off at school. As we often do, little brother and I have an errand to run while big brother is in school. He brings “Little Mikey” from Monsters, Inc. along.
1:00-1:30 PM | To Zurchers on a blog errand! This week we’re photographing a healthier Leprechaun’s Breakfast for St. Patrick’s Day, and we need a few supplies!
1:35 PM | To Chuck E. Cheese’s on a blog errand! In need of some “gold” [tokens] for our Leprechaun’s Breakfast, we stop at Chuck E. Cheese’s. We stay and spend a few tokens. Fruit Ninja is a favorite!
2:30 PM | What you may not know is that every other song we play in the car is Fall Out Boy’s “Immortals” from Disney’s Big Hero 6. But in between “Immortals,” I get to choose a song I want to listen to.
There are times when you might feel aimless, and can’t see the places where you belong. But you will find that there is a purpose. It’s been there within you all along. And when you’re near it, you can almost hear it.
David Archuleta’s “Glorious”
3:00 PM | Home. This one little flower has decided to bloom near our front door, and it makes me happy.
3:30 PM | Carpool duty! Making faces while we wait for the school bell to ring.
5:00 PM | Home for the evening. After sandwiches, I sit down to the computer for the first time today to upload photos and write this post! The boys play Xbox 360, ride bikes outside, and scribble with sidewalk chalk on the back patio.
6:30 PM | Dinner. Tonight dinner just kind of comes together. After the oldest requests fajitas, I’m beyond thrilled to find a bell pepper, half a rotisserie chicken [from Costco], shredded cheese, and tortillas in the fridge.
8:00 PM | Let the bedtime games begin! Every night at bedtime my youngest asks me if I will “swuggle“|snuggle him. One day, all too soon they won’t want me to read to them, tickle their back, or snuggle them for a few minutes before I turn the lights out.
Life happens. And when you find yourself searching for an anchor, let even the simplest blessing or comfort be that anchor for you until you find your feet again.
8:25 – 9:15 PM | Bedtime games rounds #2, #3, and #4!
9:15 PM | The house is quiet and the boys are finally asleep. Before I say goodbye, Thank You for allowing me to share my day with you.
